Outline and Scope
The aim of this special session is to bring together researchers and companies active in advancing the area of robot modularity to report on the latest developments to realise future needed technologies able to meet the global demands for flexibility of robots and robotic systems.
Modularity is the “process of designing / building components to facilitate easy and flexible configurations for realising different robot solutions.” The elements comprise software or hardware elements as well as some mixture of the two to meet the needs. An essential issue in achieving effective modular solutions is how modular safety requirements can be specified to ensure robot system requirements are satisfied. Other issues focus on the demands of manufacturing customized the wide range of robot products which are emerging for the area of service robots for improving the standard of living where the robots are to be used in many environments in close collaborations and interaction with humans. Recently, academia and industry has started activities to meet the new customer trends and how the new needed robot markets can be created. The special session will focus on the key issues and highlight the issues and what advances are being made.
