Workshop @ IROS’14

Human-robot Collaboration in Standardization and R&D activities

International workshop held in conjunction with IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS’14)

Official website of the conference

Effective robot–human interaction continues to present a key issue the holistic area of robotics, and both the industrial and service robot sectors (including medical applications) are active to make the urgently needed advances. The workshop will set the global scene in the holistic area of robotics by a wide range of short “take home message” presentations backed up with papers and posters to allow comprehensive coverage with detailed backup in the various areas as required. The initial sessions will comprise invited overview presentations to introduce the international scenes of robot standardization, robotics R&D, introduction to the potential key issues which require immediate attention to advance robotics. The focus will be on the five regions which are most active in robotics (China, Europe, Japan, Korea and the USA) for the main areas of robotics where international standardization projects are active (industrial, personal care and medical robot domains).

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Robot safety
  • Human-robot collisions
  • Benchmarking robotics (safety and performance)
  • Human-robot injury
  • Human-robot collaboration
  • Human safety data
  • Industrial robots
  • Personal care robots
  • Medical robots
  • Household robots
  • Robot safety test methods

Workshop contributions (abstracts, 2-4 pages, and posters) should be submitted via e-mail to fabio.bonsignorio@gmail.com. All submissions will be reviewed by the review panel. Abstracts should be formatted according to the IEEE format. For templates and examples follow the link http://ras.papercept.net/conferences/support/support.php.

The workshop is intended for lively discussion, therefore the accepted contributions will be presented as posters. In plenary mode, an expert panel will trigger discussion to find common themes and issues for harmonisation based on the contributions received.
